Shoppers praised after donating 575 meals during the Tesco Food Collection

Bridlington shoppers donated 575 meals during the Tesco Collection.

During the bi-annual Tesco Food Collection, customers were asked to donate durable food to support FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

Shops across the UK reported that customers have made the highest volume of food donations in support of local charities since the pandemic began, providing 1.57 million meals during the campaign, with shoppers in Bridlington donating 575 meals.

The donations support food banks in the Trussell Trust network, which provide emergency kits and help FareShare serve thousands of frontline charities.

Gareth Batty, CEO of FareShare Yorkshire, said the buyers’ donations would make a huge difference to the frontline charities they serve.

He said, “Grocery collection is important to FareShare because by donating durable items we can complement the fresh groceries we receive from Tesco year-round with staples like rice, canned vegetables, and tea and coffee.

“Thank you to every single Tesco customer who donated to the food collection this year – your generous donations will help us continue to support local charities and community groups helping feed people in need this winter.”
