DARTMOUTH, Mass. (11/12/22) – Griffin Barker was named Tournament MVP as the Kean University men’s basketball team captured the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament Title with an 81-73 victory over the host UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.

Letrell West finished with 24 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Barker as the Cougars improve to 3-0 overall. Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer and Nic Boyd both collected 14 points for the Corsairs who fall to 1-1 overall.

West and Barker combined for 24 first half points as Kean trailed for most of the opening stanza. The Cougars closed the half on an 18-6 run that saw Kean shoot a perfect 8-for-8 over the final six minutes. barker and Corey Thelisme both scored four points apiece during the run as the Cougars led 43-32 at halftime.

In the second half, UMD responded with a 24-7 run to jump back in front at 54-50 with 12 minutes left. After trading runs, Kean held a slim 68-66 lead with just under four minutes to play.

Kean had one more run in them as the Cougars responded with an 11-6 run to push their lead to 79-70 with 38 seconds remaining. Jailen Jamison totaled four points and West knocked down a key triple with three minutes remaining.

Barker posted his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Jamison tallied 10 points, while Thelisme totaled eight points, six assists and three rebounds.
