After the Jab & Slab initiative launched a number of Australian companies to encourage the nation’s public to vaccinate, Hawke’s Brewing Co. partnered with famous street artist Scottie Marsh to create a mural in the hopes of to further advance the vaccination message while at the same time raising funds for the hospitality industry.
Located on Hawke’s new brewery site in Marrickville, the mural spans a 10-meter wall that the company donated to the Inner West artist for ongoing art projects. Marsh’s first piece features a masked and freshly engraved Bob Hawke, with the former Prime Minister’s patch screen-printed with a QR code that takes people to a website where they can find the nearest Covid-19 vaccine clinic.
Hawke is known for his love of beer and also holds a partially-filled schooner jar that Marsh will regularly refill over the coming weeks as the country hits its various vaccination quotas. Marsh will put the finishing touches to the schooner Hawke’s Lager when the nation hits 80% double vaccinations, a goal the government has proposed to give the Aussies the best chance of getting back to the pub.
“It’s encouraging to see jabs on the rise. And now, with more and more vaccines available, it’s time to find another device, ”says Hawkes co-founder Nathan Lennon.
“The sooner we reach 80%, the sooner endangered companies can get back on their feet and the sooner we can all lead our lives again – fewer bans, more freedom and yes, freshly tapped beer at our favorite places. Hopefully just in time for summer. “
With the hospitality industry one of the hardest hit industries during the pandemic, the beer company hopes to raise awareness and financial support for its “hospo peers” by stating that through interactions with the mural on its social media, up to $ 10,000 in donations to Tip Jar. Unleashed, a hospitality aid fund that raises money and distributes it to those in the industry who need it most.
Hawke’s Brewing Co. will also be selling “Race you to the pub” t-shirts through their website, with a donation of $ 5 from each sale going to Tip Jar.
