Event Hospitality has fully integrated the budget and backpacker accommodation brand Jucy Snooze into its portfolio and has now completely taken over the label from the founders Tim and Dan Alpe.
The hospitality brand, known for its pod-style micro-hotel dormitories popular with backpackers, will now feature in the company’s hotel and hospitality division alongside Rydges Hotels and Resorts, QT Hotels and Resorts, Atura and the Independent Collection. The business will continue to be managed by Alpe, who will remain in the role of “Chief Jucyfier”.
The acquisition applies to the Jucy Snooze lodging sector only, with the company’s car and RV rental business not being part of the transaction.

An Event Hospitality spokesperson said the full purchase followed an initial 50% stake the company acquired in 2020.
“Event believes in a strong recovery in the budget market segment as soon as international travel resumes and the time is right to secure the remaining 50% at a low purchase price.
“Jucy Snooze is a leader in the budget lodging market, offering an experience that meets the new and emerging needs of these travelers. We are excited about the event group’s ability to support Tim Alpe (original founder) who will continue to run the events business and expand in the future.

“Jucy Snooze joins Event’s current award-winning hotels and resorts in Australia and New Zealand, including Rydges, QT, Atura and the Independent Collection by Event, and rounds off the group’s hotel offering in all market segments.”
Jucy Snooze is currently active in three New Zealand cities – Auckland, Queenstown and Christchurch – and plans to launch the brand in Australia.
The brand’s signature pods are specifically designed to incorporate features that young travelers seek based on research and focus groups. Each pod has a USB charging port, secure luggage storage, power supply, individual lighting, temperature control, bedding with privacy screens and WiFi connectivity. The accommodations offer guests access to a restaurant and bar, as well as communal areas where guests can meet and socialize.
