Kochi: The CPM state conference has given a push to the Covid-hit hospitality sector in Kochi. All major hotels in the city have been booked to accommodate the delegates and leaders of the party.
According to CPM leaders, Hotel Abad Plaza, Grand Hotel, Presidency Hotel, Bharath Tourist Home, Ernakulam Guest House, etc, have been booked for providing accommodation to the delegates and leaders. Moreover, the convention center of Bolgatty Palace Hotel also hosts various programs associated with the party state conference.
According to the CPM district leadership, around 450 delegates and a few observers are expected to attend the four-day state conference. “It is certainly a push for the hospitality sector. As the tourism sector has been dormant ever since the onset of Covid-19, we have been facing a lot of problems for the past several months,” said the director of one of the prominent hotels where many delegates would be staying. “We have been getting inquiries from international tourists and we were expecting that foreign tourists will begin visiting Kerala and Kochi from next month. The bookings as part of the CPM state conference have given us a good start,” he added.
The party has collected around Rs 3 crore from various branch committees in Ernakulam to meet the expenses of the state conference. There are around 3,300 branch committees of CPM in Ernakulam district. The leadership had given a target of Rs 10,000 from each branch committee. The branch committees have mobilized the amount through door-to-door bucket collection.
Meanwhile, the party has spent a sizeable amount in erecting the pandal for the conference at Marine Drive in Kochi. According to those running firms that erect panthals, the decoration and pandal erected for the CPM state conference may cost multiple crores. CPM district secretary CN Mohanan said that the venue of delegates’ meet has been designed in such a fashion that infections can be checked. Infections, bacterial and others, can be checked to around 99.9% accuracy, said Mohanan.
