Known around the world for his innate ability to calm aggressive dogs down, he was a thought leader when it comes to dog training and expanding the general understanding of dog behavior. Aside from his hugely successful series on National Geographic, The Famous People reports that he has authored three books that became New York Times bestsellers and opened a rehabilitation center to rescue abused and abandoned animals, the Cesar Millan Pack Project.
8th He showed skills with dogs from a young age
There are some people who were truly born with a unique talent and who seem to keep refining that skill over time. Cesar Millan is definitely one of those people. He showed masterful skills with dogs from a young age, and his parents, Filipe and Maria, were thrilled to have him assist with all of the animals on the family farm.
The family knew they could count on Cesar, and it was obvious that he had a very special way of dealing with animals. His unique and very authentic ability, coupled with his passion and admiration for all animals, was easy for anyone to see.
7th His nickname was once “The Dirty Dog Boy”
An energetic boy helping on the farm, Cesar Millan quickly became popular in his community for his incredible skills with his farm animals. What stood out the most was his love for dogs and the very special way he was able to deal with them.
Unfortunately, Cesar was bullied about it and due to the fact that he was always fooling around with animals, he was nicknamed “The Dirty Dog Boy”.
According to Sun Signs, he’s definitely got the last laugh at these bullies now in his adult years.
6th He became a limo driver when he moved to the United States
When Cesar’s family moved to the United States from his hometown of Culiacan, Mexico, he was 21 years old and didn’t speak a single word of English. He tried to assimilate, but he was determined and persistent. Cesar was unable to speak fluent English and was just beginning to recognize words and letters.
He started driving a limo driver and this would eventually lead him to meet someone special who helped him find his way around on a very successful path.
5 He always committed a certain crime …
To make ends meet, Cesar continued to work with dogs after his limousine driving shift. He did his best to be successful without even knowing the English language, so he followed his passion and found an easy way to get back to working with dogs – he became a dog walker.
His skills with dogs were already so well defined that he ran 30-40 dogs continuously without a leash, not knowing that keeping them on a leash was a crime in the United States
4th Jada Pinkett Smith helped him cultivate his career
As a limousine driver, he met none other than Jada Pinkett Smith. After getting to know each other, he started expressing his dreams of a show about pets on TV, and she saw something special in him. She told Cesar that he would need an English teacher to pull this off, and she helped him find a teacher who would do just that. She continued to be his greatest supporter and helped him a lot in establishing his career in America.
3 He threw himself into all aspects of his career
Cesar Millan immediately began to see success in his career and eventually his show became number one on National Geographic’s show, with viewers in over 80 countries. He continued to devote himself to animal rehabilitation and continued teaching owners how to properly meet their dog’s energy levels and maintain a relationship with their pets.
As Cesar continued to see success, he continued to devote himself to all aspects of his job and focused on how to use his position to continue helping animals. No matter how rich he got, he never gave up his mission.
2 He was open to new experiences
Cesar’s show was demanding and required a lot of focus and energy, but remained open to new ideas and experiences. He did a video set and appeared on an episode of the animated show South Park. He played himself in an episode of Beethoven’s Big Break and an episode of Bones.
In 2005 he made videography, “Cesar Millan’s Mastering Leadership Series, Volume 1: People Training for Dogs”. In 2006, Millan guested as himself on Season 2 Episode 18 of Children of Ghosts, GhostWhisperer. As a result, Melinda asks him for advice on how to help Ghost Whisperer’s ghost dog.
He also started his own magazine called Cesar’s Way and appeared on Jeopardy and The Apprentice where he was a judge. He’s also performed in Hell’s Kitchen.
1 He tried to commit suicide
Although his career began with certainty, it was not always easy for Cesar. In fact, he fell into severe depression and at one point struggled with his sanity.
It all started in 2000 when Cesar discovered his wife was preparing to file for divorce and custody of their two children. She also wanted marital support. When this happened, his 16 year old dog Daddy sadly passed away.
Cesar Millan couldn’t handle all the negativity that revolved around him, and he felt like he was losing everything he loved very much. In a dark moment he tried to kill himself. Fortunately, he has gone on a healing path and is doing very well these days.
