Robert Richardson FIH, CEO, Hospitality Institute

Robert Richardson FIH, who on April 19, 2021 became Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Hospitality, the leading international professional association for current and emerging executives and managers in the hospitality industry, has issued a letter officially declaring himself to the 12,500 institutes introduces members in the UK and around the world.

Richardson’s message was delivered against the backdrop of a hotel industry hit but not bowed by Brexit and the coronavirus last year. More than ever, however, she was determined to look to the future with optimism and to work together on challenges, including an impending job and qualification crisis.

In his letter, Richardson noted a number of his ambitions for the 83-year-old Institute of Hospitality and asked members for feedback on the Institute’s work. He also reaffirms his commitment to achieving Chartered Status.

Below is the text of the letter from Robert Richardson FIH:

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Hospitality.

I am pleased and honored to lead our industry’s membership organization for hotel professionals. I understand that the past year has had a significant impact on our industry and has taken its toll in many ways. However, the institute is focused on helping you reset, reopen and rebuild.

I have been a member of our institute since 2010 and a member of the supervisory board since 2018. With the knowledge gained during this time, I have a strong vision of what the institute can become in the next ten years. I am ready for the upcoming opportunities and look forward to improved collaboration in the industry and added value for our members.

For the first month, I want to take the time to listen and understand while I formulate ideas before I pick up the momentum when we start the second month. I am very happy about any feedback that you would like to share at this point. I want to get in touch with as many of you as possible as your opinion matters.

My ambitions for the institute include increasing our membership, providing our members with more networking and development opportunities, and ensuring that our industry is fully aware of the value that part of our institute brings. I also believe that it is of the utmost importance to our continued success that we realize our ambition to achieve charter status.

Personally, since the news of my appointment was published, I have been blown away by the well-wishers and kind words from so many of you that I really wasn’t expecting. Holding this position is a privilege and I want to serve.

Today we are moving into a bright future for our industry and for our institute. In every area of our diverse industry that you find yourself in, we move forward together, and for a better future for our hospitality family, here’s what I say: I’ll be there.

With best regards

Robert Richardson FIH
